On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stones for two new Delhi University (DU) campuses and a college named after the BJP ideologue, Veer Savarkar. The initiative, with an investment exceeding Rs 600 crore, is set to expand educational opportunities and modernize facilities across Delhi.
The foundation-laying ceremony took place at Ashok Vihar, where PM Modi also inaugurated a series of infrastructure projects aimed at improving the national capital’s development.
Delhi University Expands with New East and West Campuses
As part of Delhi University’s expansion efforts, the new East Campus at Surajmal Vihar and West Campus at Dwarka Sector 22 will complement the existing North and South DU campuses, further enhancing the university’s academic reach across the city.
- East Campus at Surajmal Vihar will span 15.25 acres and is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 373 crore. The campus will offer a range of programs, including LLB, LLM, and a five-year integrated LLB course, alongside multidisciplinary programs. This state-of-the-art campus will feature:
- 60 classrooms
- 10 tutorial rooms
- 6 moot courts
- 4 computer labs
- 2 cafeterias
- 2 common rooms
- A total built-up area of 59,618 square meters
- West Campus at Dwarka Sector 22, being developed with an investment of Rs 107 crore, will focus on a new academic block in its first phase. Spanning 19,434.28 square meters, the campus will include:
- 42 classrooms
- 2 moot courts
- A digital library
- Conference rooms and seminar halls
- Separate common rooms for boys and girls
Veer Savarkar College: A New Educational Hub
In addition to the campuses, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh, just a five-minute walk from the West Campus. The college will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 140 crore and will cover an area of 18,816.56 square meters. The college will feature modern amenities, including:
- 24 classrooms
- 8 tutorial rooms
- 40 faculty rooms
- Department libraries
- Conference rooms
- A canteen
